Black Home Birth Matters ATX

Every family deserves safe, respectful birth care.

Across the United States, Black women and babies continue to experience some of the worst maternal health outcomes of any racial group. Black women are approximately three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women, while Black infants are about twice as likely to die before their first birthday.

These disparities persist regardless of income or education and reflect longstanding inequities within our healthcare system—not individual choices or behaviors.

For many Black families, finding care that feels safe, culturally responsive, and grounded in trust can be difficult. At the same time, community midwifery and homebirth often require significant out-of-pocket costs that place this option out of reach for many families.

Why Giving Matters

When families are able to choose care that aligns with their values and receive support from providers who listen, respect their autonomy, and understand their lived experiences, birth can become more than a medical event, it can become an experience of dignity, connection, and healing.

Yet financial barriers continue to prevent many families from accessing community midwifery care.

That's where BHBMATX comes in.

We help reduce those barriers by providing grants for Black families seeking homebirth with qualified midwives, while also investing in the next generation of Black midwives through educational support.

Be Part of the Village

Birth has always been sustained by community.

Your generosity helps ensure that more Black families have access to compassionate midwifery care today while cultivating the Black birthworkers who will care for families tomorrow.

Together, we're creating a future where birth is safer, more equitable, and rooted in dignity.

Every gift matters. Every family matters. Every birth matters.
