Our nonprofit provides funds to Black women and families in the Austin area, to help offset some of the out-of-pocket costs associated with HOME BIRTH.
The only criteria for receiving funds is to identify as Black, you must be currently pregnant, and planning a home birth. You may work with any home birth midwife or birthkeeper in the Austin area.
As proponents of home birth and midwifery care, this organization also wants to support Black student midwives in the Austin area by helping offset the cost of tuition, supplies, etc. Apprenticeships are unpaid, start-up costs add up, and every little bit of financial support can go a long way.
We strongly believe in the importance of individualized prenatal care, and in birthing at home where we feel the most comfortable and safe. We see birth outside of the home as the first of many potential interventions which can cascade and lead to poor outcomes. Black women are the most affected by this. Comprehensive prenatal care, and a safe and sacred birth, should be accessible to everyone who desires one, and these funds will help make this a possibility for (hopefully) many women.
Birthing at home, and supporting those who do, is incredible, life changing work. It has the power to heal and transform, and the world definitely need more of that right now. A powerful, embodied pregnancy, birth, & postpartum is our birthright.

BHBMATX ONLY DISBURSES FUNDS FOR HOME BIRTHS.
NOT BIRTH CENTER OR HOSPITAL BIRTHS.
At this time, we are paying the midwives of birth fund recipients directly.
Once you have established care with a midwife, have them reach out to us directly at: apply@blackhomebirthmatters.org
After reviewing your application, and the information provided by the midwife, we will inform you both of the amount we can pay on your behalf, if you qualify.
We provide up to $2000, depending on income and financial need.
BHBMATX does not provide funds for births which have already taken place, or births planned outside of the home.
