A small group of BIPOC midwives in the Austin area are raising funds to help make midwifery care accessible to individuals desiring home birth.

Racism’s effects are complicated and far reaching. The maternal and perinatal morbidity & mortality rates among Black women and infants highlights this. Decreased accessibility to midwifery care, and the shortage of Black midwives specifically, throughout the U.S., does as well. We hope to play a part in changing this.

It is the goal of this campaign to provide funds to Black women and individuals in the Austin area, to help offset some of the out-of-pocket costs associated with midwifery care and home birth.

As well, funds will be disbursed to Black student midwives in the Austin area to help support them on their journey, by helping offset the cost of tuition, supplies, etc. Apprenticeships are unpaid, and every little bit of financial support can go a LONG way.

We see home birth and access to midwives as a human right. The funds we collect and pass on will help make this a possibility for (hopefully) many women/pregnant folks and student midwives in the area.

In the spirit of equity & long overdue reparations, this is a small but tangible way to do some good, for such an incredible, transformative time of life. So, thank you very much for your generous donation! And feel free to donate more than once! Birthing at home, and supporting those who do, is incredible, life changing work. It has the power to heal and transform, and the world definitely need more of that right now.

A powerful, embodied pregnancy and birth is our birthright.

May it be so, for all.

BHBMATX birth funds may be used towards care with any Austin area midwife.
We also support those choosing a fully autonomous pregnancy and birth experience.
